Polar Paws slot summary
Polar Paws slot by Quickspin is a gentle and scenic Christmas themed slot and as a result is pretty juvenile looking with kiddie's stuffed toys on the reels and fairyctale seasonal music as we play. The reels are over a snowy mountain valley village like a version of Play'n Go's Wild North meeting Santa. Very few Christmas slots though ever seem to meet the quality of Microgaming's old classics such as Secret Santa and my personal favourite, the volatile Deck The Halls. So will this polar bear be getting his paws into our bankroll or will he come bearing gifts?
On The Reels...
There is the standard 5 reels of 3 rows apiece here as we have 25 fixed pay lines and symbols are single. The 5-of-a-kind pays are Wreath Wild 40x, Santa Polar Bear 10x, Holly Polar Bear, Ribbon Bear and Scarf Bear 8x with five card values at 4 or 3x each for a full line. Elf scatters appear on the 3 centre reels and the Chocolate Bowl Wilds which appear only on the centre 3 reels to will multiply wins 2x if one is used, 3x for 2 and 4x for all 3 in a win line. No modifiers so on with the bonus!
Free Games
You need 3 or more Elf scatters for 10 free games. In the free spins there is a scale on the right of the grid with 3 positions on a meter for the Baby Bear, then 5 positions for Mama and Papa Bear. Every Elf scatter appearing will fill one position in and when the meter is full you convert that Bear to an extra Wild on the reels and get 2 extra spins if you fill the Mama and Papa Bear meters in, but not the Baby. You still get the multiplying Wilds in the free games too. That's it really, simple and fun if you collect enough scatters for a good total.
Our View...
Polar Paws slot isn't actually as bad as it looks despite the mechanic being used before. You get regular 10-40x wins in the base game when your balance looks under threat which is just as well as the free games can be pretty dire. The graphics and animations are okay if you like this infantile style of slot theme and the free games come in often enough, which they would when you consider how hard it is to win anything of note from them. The best thing about Polar Paws is the quite high 96.84% RTP, but that alone isn't enough for me to add this slot to my Christmas list...
