Prime Zone slot by Quickspin combines both a retro look with the ultra modern theme in this interesting and yet quite uncomplicated game. Our reels lie over a beach city at dusk, probably meant to be Miami and we hear some funky music in the background yet have old 1980's sound effects as we spin and the reels stop. I'm sure some of the sounds were used in their classic Second Strike slot, and like Hot Sync and Dragon Shrine the objective here seems to be a simple mechanic with enough going on to keep us interested. So are we in the zone to get some prime additions to our bankroll?
We get 10 fixed pay lines here on Prime Zone slot which pay left-to-right only. Symbols are single and retro in nature with the Wild paying 100x bet for 5-of-a-kind, Red 7 50x, Blue 7 40x, Diamond 25x, Bell 20x with the four card suits paying either 10 or 5x for a full line. Wilds are only 1x themselves, but will add up to multiply line wins, i.e. if 3 Wilds form part of a winline it's paid at 3x up to 5x for all 5 although the rules don't specify that the 100x for 5OAK Wilds would actually pay 500x. Your final icon is the red bonus scatter appearing on the centre reels only.
So having landed your 3 scatters on reels 2,3 and 4 you get to select a free games bonus which is always 7 spins and you cannot get extra spins or retriggers. What you do get is a choice of Prime Zones. These are 3 adjacent reels and 3 random Wilds are placed on them each free game. You can choose to have the Prime Zone on reels 1,2,3 for a 1x multiplier virtually guaranteeing a win every spin and low volatility, on reels 2,3,4 for a 2x multiplier and finally 3,4,5 for a 3x multiplier. If you don't like choosing, you could take the random one where the Prime Zone moves each spin to one of the 3 selections mentioned.
Wilds can still appear on the two non-prime reels so effectively you can get a 20x multiplier on the random option and a maximum of 5, 10 or 15x for the 3 fixed choices as described. It's rarely a disappointing total achieved in these spins and I found the middle choice of 2,3,4 worked best but of course some sizeable potential can occur for the 3,4,5 or random options if you like volatility.
I think Quickspin have made better slots than Prime Zone in the past most definitely, but you always get smooth running and better than average graphics and animations with their games, as is indeed the case here. The base game can drop some decent wins in itelf but the free games are quite exciting to be fair to them although triggering them can take a while. The RTP is a respectable 96.28% and seems to be quite favourable to the base game turnover, always a good thing regarding the latter point made. You won't get into the zone playing this pretty average slot though...
