Blazing X slot by Bally is at least an original idea even if the maths my not be what modern slot players might prefer. We open the game to some cheesy jazz music but it does look nice with blue reels over a dark red Chinese background and golden dragons lining the grid so there's no mistaking the theme. Bally do like the Orient and have produced some decent slots in the past with 88 Fortunes, Double Dragon and Fu Dao Le which is possibly the best of that trio. So will our bankroll be blazing a trail here to where X marks the spot, or will we be crossing out any chances of a win?
We immediately see stacked symbols on the large 5x5 grid where we pay a rather odd 24 coins for the 40 fixed pay lines we play on Blazing X slot. As with most Bally slots since their incorporation into Scientific Gaming, the line pays are abysmally low with the best 5-of-a-kind being the Token at 1.5x bet or 36 coins, then Butterfly 24, Vase or Fan 12 with 4 card values paying either 12 or 6 coins for a full line. There are Dragon scatters on the three centre reels but how to we get those awful pays improved?
On reel 3 a stacked Wild appears which triggers the Blazing X increasing multiplier. On the left of the grid there is a scale of 1,2,5,10 and 25x. The Wild on reel 3 expands to fill the whole reel and pays any wins. On the right you'll see 3 Lights and you need the Wild to land again in the next 3 spins to reset those lights to 3 chances again. When it does, you get the 2x multiplier activated on it and so-on until it maxes out at 25x. This means the awful line pays will now become mediocre.
The 3 Dragon scatters trigger 10 spins. No retrigger but the Blazing X multiplier on the reel 3 Wild cannot reset back to 1x again after 3 losing chances have gone. If you get it to 10 or 25x during this round you may win something other than an insulting total.
Blazing X slot is decent to look at and has good sounds, animations and graphics but is simply pointless to play if you want to win money, due to the egg-timer maths. You get a reasonable 95.94% RTP but that's the only positive here aside from the appearance. Sadly gone are the days with the potential this developer gave on slots like Quick Hit Platinum and all we get nowadays are these low-risk tediously low-volatility games. You can win a decent amount in the bonus but only if you get to the 25x Wild with several spins left. Blazing X? I'll be blazing a trail in the opposite direction if I see this slot in my online casino's offerings...
