Path of the Wizard slot review
The path of a wizard leads to many things: power, fame, some kick-ass spells and a massive fuck-off beard. The world of fairies, wizards, dragons, and yes – fuck-off beards – is gleefully celebrated in slot developer Microgaming’s fantasy-themed video slot, Path of the Wizard.
On the Reels...
A 5 reel, 25 pay-line slot, Path of the Wizard plunges you right into a world of magic and myth, with fairies, dragons, a top-paying Wizard (who pays 2,500 coins when five hit across the reels) and a mystical knight figure filling out the reels. The magic box symbol is Wild and substitute for all regular symbols other than the Scatters. Wild wins pay double.
Earn at Least 3 Free Spins and a 2x Multiplier
Path of the Wizard logos trigger free spins when you hit three or more Scatters across reels 1, 3, and 5. First, you’ll have to select from one of the three orbs. This will lead you to a second Pick ‘em screen where you select artifacts – behind each item is a spin amount. Keep picking until you’re ready to spin and your total spins have been determined. Players have 3 spins to begin with and an automatic 2x multiplier applied to wins, so even if you’re not that lucky on the Pick ‘em screen, you can still get something out of the bonus round. Oh, and finally, the bonus feature can also be re-triggered.
With some pretty graphics, a simple if effective bonus round, and some nice movement on the reels, Microgaming’s slot is a solid, if unspectacular, addition to the fantasy slot genre. It will obviously do well on mobile casinos when the adaptation arrives, but for my money there are better thrills to be had elsewhere.
As for alternatives, check out IGT's great fantasy slots offering, Dungeons and Dragons: Treasures of Icewind Dale, while Microgaming’s own big-move tie-in slot, The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring, is hard to better.
