Showdown Saloon slot has been created by an in-house Microgaming developer, Fortune Factory. This seems to be the trend lately there and it has to be said that this policy hasn't really produced anything but mediocrity, with recent releases such as Fortunium, Romanov Riches and Lucky Links being prime examples. Here we have a Western theme with the expected music and wooden reels set over a tablecloth of bullets, cards and poker chips. It doesn't look too bad though, but will we have to be quick on the draw to leave this town with our bankroll intact?
In the Showdown Saloon we have 15 paying lines over 5 reels and 3 rows with stacked symbols. The pays aren't as low as you usually see on these latter day Microgaming releases, especially as your stacked wilds pay 100x the 20-coin bet for 5-of-a-kind so have the potential to give 1500x for a full screen. There is a drop after that with Pistol 7x, Poker Chips 4x, Whiskey 3x, Dice 2x and 5 card values at 1x. Even the free spins Cowboy Scatters are stacked too, but before we get ready to challenge him, there is an in-play feature to get past.
Now we have mystery stacks in the base game on the reels and these all reveal from 1 to 3 different symbols. Should you match two or more consecutive reels of them starting from the left, you get paid if applicable and then the other reels respin for the chance of another win. Should another full reel land, you get paid and have another respin. Naturally this feature doesn't occur if you have 5 reels drop straight in.
You need to see the first 3 reels full of the stacked Cowboy to earn 5 free games, 4 for 10 and a full screen for 15. You'll be pleased to know that the Symbol Stack Respins also work for the scatters but not so pleased about the fact they don't retrigger. You do get one enhancement though - if a when you see the Symbol Stack Respins instead of the mystery symbols being from 1-3 different ones, they'll all be the same thus increasing win chances.
Showdown Saloon slot has only one word to describe it - average. It's not bad, the graphics, sounds and animations are well executed but it's essentially yet another unexciting mechanic which involves plenty of bells and whistles but little hope of a notable win. The free spins aren't hard to get but the yield is usually pathetic with just 1x bet being a common outcome, despite the decent 96.18% RTP. Sorry Microgaming, but this town ain't big enough for the both of us...
