Xcalibur slot review
Not to be confused with the online slot, Excalibur, from developer NetEnt or any one of a dozen medieval-tinged games available at online casinos these days, slot developer Microgaming's Xcalibur certainly makes up in gameplay what it lacks in capital Es.
On the Reels...
The slot is played out over 5 reels with a whopping 50 pay-lines available to hit, and as you'd expect from the name it conjures up tales of King Arthur, his missus Guinevere, and his trusty wizard, Merlin.
Ornate medieval-styled poker card symbols are joined on the reels by King Arthur himself, Guinevere, Merlin, a dragon, a helmet and shield.
(E)xcalibur is Wild!
Excalibur, Arthur's mighty sword which was given to him by the ethereal Lady of the Lake (either that or Arthur had had one too many meads that night), is the game's Wild and substitutes for all symbols other than the Bonus Scatters. It only appears on reels 1, 3 and 5 but it is Stacked.
Encounter Merlin to Win 12 Free Spins and a 2x Multiplier
Land three or more Merlin symbols anywhere on the reels and you will trigger a free spins round with 12 awarded, together with a 2x multiplier on all wins. That doesn't sound too shabby, but it's worth remembering that you can't re-trigger the bonus.
Pick a Door to Earn up to an 8x Multiplier
Hit Key Scatters on reels 2, 3 and 4, meanwhile, and you will activate the game's other bonus round - a simple Pick 'em bonus round where you have to choose from eight doors. Wins will accumulate until you hit the standard 'Collect' sign, and wins can be multiplied by anything from 1x to 8x.
Xcalibur is a decent effort at a medieval slot from Microgaming. Free spins alone would not be enough to recommend this game, but with the added Pick 'em bonus it lifts the slot out of the humdrum.
While we're talking slots that sound like 'xcalibur', why not check out NetEnt's Excalibur medieval-themed slot (with Es included): it has all the requisite Net Ent style and plenty of good bonus features.Review by Gamingslots
