Zombie Hoard slot review

zombie hoard slot gameZombie Hoard slot is another Microgaming game created by a smaller in-house developer, in this case SlingShot Studios. If you have player Microgaming's more volatile 9-liners such as Break Da Bank Again, Thunderstruck or Ladies Nite then this game may be just your thing as you have some potential without the excessive volatility of those three. The theme is predictably juvenile with cartoon zombies and daft music and the grid is situated over a plain purple background with some deformed green hands waving about on either side of it. Are those hands going to help us, or will they be grabbing our bankroll far too quickly?

On The Reels...
As said above, Zombie Hoard slot has 9 fixed lines over 5 reels of 3 rows each. the 5-of-a-kind pays are quite decent as tends to be the case with games having so few lines and we begin with the Wilds in the form of the game logo at 1200 coins or 133x bet for a full line. Those Wilds, like the other icons, are single except on reels 3 and 4 where they are super-stacked. Brain scatters are 900 coins for all 5, then grey Zombie at 500, Nurse Zombie 400, Green Zombie 250 and Blonde Zombie 80 with five card values of 80 down to 40. We have a free games bonus triggered in 2 different ways too!

Free Games
You have a free games totalizer above reel 5 which always begins with 5. Some card values will be overlaid with tokens, in which case those green deformed hands will grab them and throw them on the meter to increase the total. Now at any time you can trigger these spins with 3 or more Brain scatters but you will automatically get the free spins too as soon as they reach 30 in total. When you do, the Wilds will now be super-stacked on all 5 reels and all wins are paid at 2x multiplier. You cannot get a retrigger though, or any extra spins.

Our View...
Zombie Hoard slot may be slightly silly in appearance but as a game mechanic it works fine. The RTP isn't huge at 95.29% but the free spins come round quite often and usually are the full 30 on the meter which makes the bonus quite fun to watch. You could see a full screen of Wilds in the bonus which at 2x would pay you a considerable 2400x bet if you were fortunate, so a gentle base game with potentially big hits in the bonus is the format here. The in-house developer games supplied via Microgaming can often be pretty dire, but these zombies aren't as bad for your balance as you might fear...
