Fate of Fortune slot by Elk Studios is one of those games with a weird reel configuration so strikes you as odd at first. The theme is arcane with a dark forest temple behind the reels, spooky classical music and sound effects and symbols to match. Ladies of mystery are the characters as with say Gamesys' Queen of The Tree Folk slot or if not familiar with that, Netent's Wilderland slot. The easy question then, is can we take fortune for our bankroll or will fate not be kind to us?
On the reels...
There is an odd configuration here with the reels in a 5-3-1-3-5 pattern on Fate of Fortune slot, kind of like the opposite of Netent's Reel Rush game. Symbols can appear stacked, you pay 100 coins to play as there are 81 connecting pay lines here, all of which must go through the centre single tile but do pay both ways. The 5-of-a-kind pays are low at 2x bet, 1.5x and 1x for the three different red, blue and green Fates respectively with three card values of 0.7, 0.6 and 0.5x for a full line of 5. Wilds come in 2 forms, an Expanding Blue on on reels 2 and 4 which when appearing expands outwards to the end reel 1 or 5 and a standard Pink Wild. Stacked Mystery symbols may appear on all reels bar the centre tile too. As you might imagine, the modifiers come via the centre tile of the grid.
If you watch the Crystal Ball under the centre position, you may see it reveal any one of these:
Lady - swaps all the Lady/Fate symbols in view to the same one.
Multiplier - random 2-50x multiplier for that win.
Red Wild - this is a Walking Wild which splits and walks both ways out, thus 3 re-spins occur before it goes.
Green Wild - this is a 2x Locked Wild which remains there until a win occurs, increasing by 2x for each losing spin.
You can get another Crystal Ball land too during the bottom two modifiers in the list.
Land 3 or 4 Golden Fates scatters to trigger free games. there is no fixed quantity of them as Elk have nicked the bonus mechanic of Push Gaming's Razor Shark slot here!! This means when Mystery stacks appear, of which you are guaranteed at least one to begin with off a 3-scatter trigger and two for a four-scatters. These will nudge away off the bottom one row per free spin and of course more can land on other reels during, always revealing a different symbol each spin on a random basis. You get an increasing multiplier of 1x per free spin so as Mystery Stacks can land over and over, the free spins and multiplier are technically unlimited. You are capped at 10,000x bet here and you still get the Crystal Ball modifiers during them but only the multiplier.
Fate of Fortune slot I have to say is a fine looking game with beautiful sounds and animations too. The RTP is a bit ropey at only 95.00% but you really do see some nice hits during the base game, especially with the 2x increasing Sticky Wild modifier. As a result of all this, the win frequency seems to be lower than on most games you might be used to playing and the free games are hard to hit. As I said, Elk have copied push Gaming's Razor Shark mechanic here and simply changed the look it. Imitation is the best form of flattery however and there's nothing wrong with developers using existing ingredients in their recipes as long as the cake tastes better than before! I think this slot does in its own way so taking a slice of this action might well mean fortune is indeed your fate here...
