Ping Pong Star slot review
Ping Pong Star slot is Microgaming's attempt at a Bonanza Megaways slot but it is not an authentic Megaways game licensed by Big Time Gaming. It was developed by Zerofox who present the game through the Quickfire platform and has a cartoon theme centred around the jungle which makes up the background here and we hear inane noises by from the various animals as we play. Instead of Megaways they call this mechanic 'Epic Ways' but it's not the first time a developer has tried to make a Bonanza equivalent, as we saw with Play'n Go's Perfect Gems and Red Tiger's Laser Fruit. So will the game play ping pong with our bankroll or will we net ourselves a fortune?
On The Reels...
Each reel can display 2 to 7 rows on any spin on Ping Pong Star slot and that includes the scrolling reel of symbols below the main grid, therefore we get 324 to 177649-ways each spin. The symbols appear stacked and Wild Trophies can only appear on the scrolling reel below. The pays are slightly higher than the equivalent top symbols on Bonanza as the top 6-of-a-kind pay is the King Monkey at 60x bet, Yellow Monkey 7.5x, Blue Monkey 2.25x, Purple at 2x with six card values paying 1.5 down to 1x for a way of 6. Single Crown scatters appear on all reels and there aren't any random modifiers or mystery tiles.
You need 4 or more Crowns to get 12 free games, each Crown over 4 adds 5 extra spins so you can get 17, 22, 27 or even 32 for 8 in view. Where Bonanza spells out G-O-L-D for the 4 scatters, here they spell out S-T-A-R. You can only see the Crowns on the scrolling reel underneath during the free games and 3 or 4 will award 5 or 10 extra spins respectively. Similarly Wilds only appear on the ber underneath too, as in the base game. The game replaces winning symbols with fresh tiles from above when wins occur in both the base game and these free games, but in the bonus each winning cascade adds 1x to the unlimited multiplier.
Ping Pong Star slot is quite simply an unofficial copy of Bonanza Megaways with a silly theme and a similar RTP of 96.22%. We know how successful Bonanza has been so cannot fault the mechanic here and of course there is huge potential in the free games, but they are hard to trigger too. The theme is irritating after a while as is the daft music and unless you are using a Viper casino there's little reason to choose this slot over an authentic Megaways...Review by Gamingslots
