Dr Toonz slot by Play'n Go may by its very name, the 'Toonz' bit, lead you to expect yet another grid game from this developer. True enough, it has a similar zany cartoon lab theme as Energoonz slot for example or Reactoonz and the latest addition to the subject, Reactoonz 2 slot. This is fortunately not a grid or cluster slot. You get a lab background, weird noises and those silly eye symbols of this Play'n Go genre but that's where the similarities stop. So can this doctor sing some Toonz for our bankroll or will it be off to the sick bed?
On the reels...
There are six reels of 4 rows each and stacked symbols offering up 4096-ways to win with no fixed pay lines. This means pays are low with just 2x for the Orbit Wilds, 1x down to 0.5x for the higher-pay Double Eye heads and 0.3 or 0.25x for the Single Eye heads. There are Helix scatters on all reels and your modifiers are triggered by a Quantumeter sitting under the Mad Doc by the left. Each spin, he has a random colour orb underneath him which is opened up for its particular modifier by getting 3 tumbles within one spin:
Blue Quantum Wilds - adds 2-6 Wilds in random positions.
Yellow Metamorphosis - transforms 5-8 tiles into another symbol except Wild or scatter.
Red Disintegration - removes all Single Eye low values and adds 2 Wilds to the reels.
You need 3 to 6 Helix scatters which awards 10 to 25 spins and no retriggering. Your enhancement here is that the Doc's Quantumeter will have a 1 or 2 head start on its 3-segment trigger meter. As well as that, 1-6 reels will have a 2x multiplier placed above them, which comes into effect if any win uses that reel. These are multiplicative so a 6AOK win with all 6 multipliers allocated that spin will pay a maximum 64x. We are told 22,000x is possible.
If you can get past the inane look and noises, Dr Toonz isn't a bad game with a reasonable 96.25% RTP but this could be set as low as 84.25% so always check! You get the odd decent hit in the base game, even high ones sometimes via the modifiers from the Quantumeter. The free spins offer a better chance due to the possibility of multipliers of 2-64x being in play. The lack of contrast in the symbols and colours make it a bit awkward and dull to play and follow though. I'm not sure you'll want an appointment with this doctor when push comes to shove...
