The Mask of Zorro slot summary
The Mask of Zorro is a movie-themed slot with a Latin flavour from game maker Playtech. It is based on the 1998 film of the same name, featuring Antonio Banderas, Anthony Hopkins and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Several characters appear on the reels, as we have seen in similar slots such as Bally's Titanic and BluePrint's Austin Powers slot. This 5 reel slot is accompanied with a very heroic Spanish-themed soundtrack, with plenty of triumphant trumpets playing, punctuated with the slashing of Zorro’s trusty sword. So will The Mask of Zorro cut us a nice profit or will we be left feeling shredded?
On the reels…
This very standard looking 5 reel, 3 row slot has a total of 40 paylines. Top paying symbol is The Zorro Wild, with a potential 25x for 5-of-a-kind (5OAK). The payouts drop rather dramatically to 12.5x for a 5OAK of the Anthony Hopkins character, 7.5x for 5OAK of Catherine Zeta-Jones symbol and dropping further for other characters. After the picture symbols you get the A-K-Q-J-10-9 which pay between 1.5x and 0.5x for 5OAK. The only other symbol worth noting is the Bonus (3 candle) symbol, which only appears on reels 1, 3 and 5. There is no pays for these symbols appearing, but it does trigger the feature when 3 appear.
The Mask of Zorro Feature
In both the base game and the free games feature Zorro can swish his sword, slicing a ‘Z’ on the reels. Every symbol position touched by the sword will turn Wild, with up to 10 Wild symbols being added to the reels. From what I can make out the bigger wins are generally had the closer to the left hand reel the Zorro Wilds appear in this feature.
Free spins bonus
If you have managed to get through the heart-stopper as you wait for bonus symbol on reel 5, then you will have likely triggered the main free spins feature. You then get to pick 2 from 6 candles to reveal how many free spins you will get and how many multipliers. You then take your rewards through to the reels and play out the feature. This feature can be retriggered an unlimited number of times, should you land 3 or more bonus scatters during the feature.

The Mask of Zorro is a pretty volatile slot, with some big wins possible in the base game as well as in the bonus feature. The Mask of Zorro feature is something very unique to this slot, adding a nice piece of personalization. The RTP is a rather poultry 94.99% RTP, but the game itself is quite enjoyable, especially if you like your slots streaky. Playtech have a long line of entertaining movie-themed slots such as Batman Begins, Batman v Superman and SuperMan 2.There is also a slot of the same theme from Aristocrat called Zorro, which I also really enjoy. My advice is treat this swashbuckler with some respect, as the rewards can be big, but you can be made to wait for Zorro to draw his sword…
