Micro Knights slot review

micro knights slot gameMicro Knights slot by Elk Studios must surely have got the name because the theme is cartoon medieval and the symbols are microscopic. The tiny grid lies over a green and lush village with music from the period playing gently with blasts of chanting every time a winning cluster appears. If you like these sort of games you may well have played the old classic Gemix by Play'n Go or if not then their more modern Moon Princess but if you aren't familiar with Play'n Go slots then Netent have produced a few including the lamentable Twin Spin Deluxe. So will these knights be turning our bankroll from macro to micro, or not?

On The Grid...

There's always a lot going on with this type of 7x7 tile mechanic and Micro Knights slot is no different. You need 5 or more adjacent symbols to form a cluster to be paid and these will disappear to be replaced by more falling into the column they are removed from. The 5-of-a-kind pays for the 8 different tiles range from 2.5 x bet for the Bull down to 0.1x bet for the lowest symbol, the Ham. You need 20+ symbols for the top pays and these are 250x bet for the Bull and 10x for the Ham. There is a meter with a bell at the top to the right of the grid which when activated by using 20 or more symbols will trigger the first of 6 Feature Flags. You can also send symbols to a trail below the grid when the moving Knight on the left of the grid randomly removes a row from the screen and sends them into the queue there. There are Crown scatters and Goblet Wilds also appearing on the grid.

Sticky Queue

The Golden Knight removes a line of symbols from a random row and places them in the queue below except for scatters and Wilds. These will be used when they can be added to the grid in order to create or add to a winning cluster, i.e. if you have 4 in a cluster and there's one underneath too. The Silver Knight above the grid may randomly bash his mace down and increase the number of these symbols in the queue to make them potentially more useful.

Flag Features

These modifiers are created cumulatively by 20+ symbols triggering the bell on the meter to the right of the grid. You will get one of the following, or more if this leads to a second ring of the bell and so-on.

Inferno - red flag, burns off all low-value tiles.
Extra Wilds - pink flag, places 3 to 15 random Wilds onto the grid.
Super Size - purple flag, drops 2x2 to 4x4 giant symbol onto the grid.
Charge - orange flag, sends 2-5 rows of symbols into the queue.
Epic Charge - blue flag, removes every tile and adds to the queue.
Boosted Queue - green flag, uses all symbols in queue at once to form winning clusters

Free Falls

You get 5 of these for 3 or more Crown Scatters on the grid. The same as base game except the Flag Meter and Queue are persistent throughout and don't disappear between spins. Some potential here and we are told we can win up to 2,500x bet although they don't retrigger. It is rare to get a disappointing total in this fun bonus.

Our View...

Micro Knights slot is actually colourful fun despite the rather juvenile appearance and the flag and queue features are regular enough to make up for the quite low win frequency. The RTP is 96.00% and a lot of this seems to be tied up in the free falls bonus which seldom pays poorly and is quite exciting when you manage to progress through all the six flags during them. Elk have got away with the weird appearance by being imaginative with the modifiers and I loved the Medieval-meets-metal musical score to the free falls! There is more than a micro chance I'll be paying this slot another visit...
