Volcano Eruption Extreme slot is simply a rehash of one of Nextgen's first slots 'Volcano Eruption'. I'm surprised that the volcano theme isn't used more with the spectacular graphical possibilities afforded by lava, explosions and eruptions and all we've really had of note is NetGen's Hot Hot Volcano and Quickspin's Volcano Riches thus far. Here we get a lavascape in the tropics as our setting with transparent reels and an active volcano to the right of the screen with some spine-tingling music to get us in the mood for the inevitable dangers to come. Can our bankroll escape these pyroclastics or will those volcanic bombs turn it to ash before we can run?
The grid of Volcano Eruption Extreme is of 5 reels and 3 rows with 25 pay lines and single symbols. At the moment the wildlife twitters nervously in the background and we need to coax it out as they're the best 5-of-a-kind pays, the Lizard paying 20x, Parrot 10x, Monkey or Fruit 8x alongside six card values awarding either 6, 5 or 4x bet for a full line. Wild volcanoes appear on reels 2, 3 and 4 only. We don't get any scatters as such although the Volcanoes pay 2x bet for any two and 5x for all three.
At the beginning of any spin the reels can start to shake and you hear a loud rumble as black smoke and ash spews forth from our dangerous volcano on the right. This may be a false alarm so the creators can relax once again, but a shower of lava bombs may emit which will cover 0-3 positions across reels 2, 3 and 4 with the Wild volcano. This may help trigger our bonus as we will soon find out, but if it doesn't we may see a decent pay. You may also see an eruption after a win on the reels which freezes the win and shakes the last two reels into spinning again to hopefully add to our winning lines. It's all three volcanoes we really want though.
To trigger this feature we must see the Wild volcano on all the centre three reels. This can drop in naturally but is more likely when the random eruption adds Wild volcanoes to those reels. When you do get all three the centre reel 3 turns into a full expanded Lava Wild and sticks in place while the rest re-spin 5 times. Even if no Volcano Wilds land on reels 2 and/or 4 some symbols there may get turned into Wilds randomly and pay their scatter award plus any lines they are involved in as Wilds. The centre Wild reel only counts as one Wild scatter though. This round will usually see an accumulation of decent wins and is certainly fun to watch.
Volcano Eruption Extreme slot is definitely not as volatile as the name would suggest. You're never going to get wins as spectacular as the graphics and effects here and nor is the RTP at 95.41%, quite low for Nextgen slots of late. You will however see plenty of entertaining visuals and your balance certainly won't get burned up as quick as you may think in this heat. If your preference is for game time over potential big wins, then Volcano Eruption Extreme is worth a visit but I will avoid this pyroclastic flow for different reasons - it isn't hot enough for me...
